Livio Lauro Judges Cocktail Contest in Las Vegas!
It’s October in Las Vegas and it’s still HOT. Temperatures this time of year can still climb above 100 degrees! Thirsty?? Recently, “The Twelve Cocktails” co-author Livio Lauro lent his expertise on the topic to a cocktail competition hosted by the United States Bartenders’ Guild Las Vegas chapter. Having also been a former Champion and the editor of the USBG’s Beverage & Bartending Compendium, Livio is frequently tapped to judge cocktail competitions. At this particular competition, the Piña Colada and it’s variations were the focus. After several rounds, Las Vegas resident Ryan Clark earner the top spot with his incredible Piña Colada recipe. Livio felt the recipe best represented a contemporary interpretation on of a classic cocktail. “Quite frankly, it was simply delicious. ” What better compliment can you ask for from the man who wrote the best new book on cocktails!
Winning Recipe and Instructions
2oz. Don Q Pasion rum
1/2oz Don Q Anejo rum
1 1/2oz Dole pineapple juice
1oz Maui & Sons Coconut water
1/4oz Re’al Ginger infused syrup
2 dash’s Fee Brothers cherry bitters
Combine all ingredients except for Don Q Anejo rum in a shaker and shake vigorously, Strain over crushed ice. Float Don Q Anjeo on top. Garnish with 2 pineapple leaves and a Luxardo maraschino cherry.
